Editorial: The SOIE endorses
the 9th IOIS Congress
Carl P. Herbort, MD, PD, MER, FEBO President, SOIE University of Lausanne, Lausanne, Switzerland |
Dear Colleagues,
Since the official founding of the International Ocular Inflammation Society (IOIS) back in 1992, much has been accomplished by the society including the launch of a scientific journal on ocular inflammation and the publication of several books, including important guidelines on ocular inflammation. The 9th IOIS congress scheduled in Paris will certainly represent another highlight for the society. |
Therefore, when an invitation was extended to the Society of Ophthalmo-immunoimfectiology in Europe (SOIE), our society, in consultation with our Executive Committee, immediately responded positively. We are looking forward to joining this major event in the field of ocular infectious and inflammatory diseases.
A few words on our society: The SOIE (www.soie-soif.org) is the continuation of the Société d’Ophtalmo-immunoinfectiologie Francophone (SOIF). It has been active for several years but was not officially established until 2005. Largely devoted to teaching tasks, SOIE is a small group that privileges direct exchanges and contacts within small format courses and workshops. SOIE is of course both eager and honored to take part in what promises to be one of the most important events in the field in recent years, and to join other participating societies such as the International Uveitis Study Group (IUSG), and the American Uveitis Society (AUS).
For the 9th IOIS Congress, the SOIE will contribute a symposium on progress in intraocular imaging. The development of new imaging techniques has changed significantly our appraisal of intraocular inflammatory diseases or uveitis.
At a time when fascinating developments are continously reaching us, the 9th IOIS Congress is a unique opportunity for professionals interested in the diverse aspects of ocular inflammation, ocular microbiology and ocular immunology and allergology, and in uveitis in particular, to increase their knowledge and understanding of this small but complex field.
With the mythical city of Paris as the backdrop to this venue, the 9th IOIS Congress will offer a broadly oriented and far-reaching scientific program of the highest standard, an event in infectious and inflammatory eye diseases not to be missed !
Rendez-vous à Paris !
