ORBIS, an international non-profit organization dedicated to fighting avoidable blindness worldwide, is excited to announce a job opening that will support ORBIS’ work in China . ORBIS China currently has offices in Kunming and Shanghai , and will soon open a third one in Beijing . Reporting to Regional Manager, North Asia based in Beijing , the incumbent will facilitate ORBIS’ eye care training and direct patient care services, ensuring that appropriate ophthalmic interventions are in place and carried out effectively in accordance with ORBIS’ strategic program direction and priorities.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Ensure that all direct eye care services offered by ORBIS in China are delivered safely and conform to the standards set by ORBIS policy and guided by Joint Commission International and Preferred Practice Pattern of AAO.
2. Manage and maintain medical records and patient database, and perform statistical analysis.
3. Conduct surgical case reviews as assigned.
4. In conjunction with program & partner liaison staff, ensure that the needs for ophthalmic interventions are adequately addressed, planned, and implemented in the programs, and that plans are in place to integrate ORBIS’ global and strategic resources ( Flying Eye Hospital , Cybersight, Hospital-based programs, Fellowships) into a sustained program effort aimed at patient services and results.
5. Support and facilitate volunteer faculty, ensuring that they are engaged in the best way possible for sustained training and development of eye care professionals at all levels.
6. Provide professional input in the development of concept papers and proposals that are market driven and align with ORBIS’ program strategic direction.
7. Participate in discussions with partner hospitals and perform necessary site visits.
8. Provide input to partner hospital management support and integration into ORBIS program for long term sustained impact on reduction in blindness.
9. Track, measure, evaluate, and report on the outcomes and impact of programs.
10. Work closely with Senior Adviser (Ophthalmology), Asia in addressing medical emergencies and complications as they arise.
11. Promote the mission of ORBIS, actively participate in public relations activities and fundraising events, and represent ORBIS at professional forums.
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:
¨ Medical degree from a recognized university
¨ Ophthalmology Residency Certificate
¨ Current medical license
¨ Medical and surgical ophthalmology experience
¨ Experience in conducting ophthalmic education program
¨ Public health training preferred
KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS:
¨ Excellent interpersonal, communication, and diplomacy skills
¨ Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
¨ Strong teaching and training skills, with ability to apply adult and participatory learning methods
¨ High professional integrity
¨ Strong computer skills and good working knowledge of MS office applications
¨ Oral and written fluency in English and Chinese
