Comparison of Visual Performance Between Monovision and Acrysof® Restor® Aspheric Lenses
Dr Marc Wei, MBBS FRANZCO
Purpose: To analyse and compare visual acuity and binocular contrast sensitivity results following bilateral cataract extraction and/or refractive lens exchange with implantation of both the single vision intraocular lenses for monovision and AcrySof® ReSTOR® Aspheric intraocular lens in presbyopic patients.
Method: Data of 60 patients who had bilateral implantation of the Acrysof® ReSTOR® Aspheric and Acrysof® IQ were collected prospectively. Patients included in the study had no pathology other than cataract, had 1.00D or less astigmatism and had potential post-operative visual acuity of 6/7.5 or better. Monovision used was -1.50D (+/- 0.5D). All surgery was performed by the presenter. Excel was used to analyse visual acuity and refractive data at 1 and 3 months. Patients had contrast sensitivity measured using the ETDRS CSV-1000E binocularly.
Results: Post-operative binocular visual acuity at 1 and 3 months as well as contrast sensitivity and stereopsis for both the ReSTOR® Aspheric and monovision patients. Patient subjective evaluation will also be presented as well as the efficacy of aspheric multifocal correction compared to aspheric monovision.
Conclusion: Significant difference in near vision and stereopsis was found between the two groups.
