Purpose: To evaluate and compare corneal endothelial cell loss after
phacoemusification using Alcon Infinity Ozil.
Methods: We evaluated the record of 100 patients who underwent cataract
surgery using Alcon Infinity Ozil by one surgeon (WHP). All patients had
preoperative endothelial cell counts over 2000/mm2. Cataract were
divided into two groups according to its density: 1.Moderate (grade 2-3) and 2. Hard cataract (grade 4-5).
We compared preoperative and postoperative endothelial cell counts by
using a Topcon SP 3000 noncontact specular microscope.
Results: Endothelial loss after cataract surgery was significantly lower compared
with endothelial cell counts before surgery (p<0.05). There were no
statistically significant difference (p<0.05) in the post operative
endothelial cell count after cataract surgery in the moderate compared
to hard cataracts.
Conclusions: There was a significant difference in the endothelial cell count before
and after surgery in both groups, but no significant difference between
the moderate compared to hard cataract group using Alcon Infinity Ozil.
