Ocular manifeststions of sellar and parasellar tumours - A Case Series

Aim: To study the ocular manifestations of patients with sellar&parasellar tumours.

Materials & Methods: A Retrospective study of 77 patients with sellar&parasellar tumours with ocular complaints who presented to Department of NeuroOphthalmology in a tertiary eye care center from 2006-2009 was done.

Results: Out of 77, 48were male,29were female.72% presented with defective vision,2% had diplopia,7% had headache, 3% with drooping of eyelid ,0.7% with loss of vision and 20% had ocular motility restriction.Central fields examination showed Bitemporal hemianopia in 15% of patients, 1% had homonymous hemianopia,3% had enlarged blind spot and others showed peripheral constriction of fields, nasal and superior field defects. Fundus examination revealed Bilateral Papilledema in 23% of patients,Segmental pallor in 16%,Primary Optic Atrophy in 23% of patients.25 patients underwent neurosurgery and 11 improved in terms of vision,field and fundus during 6months follow up and 4 improved after 1 year. Imaging revealed Pituitary adenomas as the commonest tumour in this study rest being meningioma,craniopharyngioma, schwanoma.

Conclusion: So patients with defective vision, field ,fundus changes need complete neuroevaluation.
