Satyamurthy Kodur
Purpose: To evaluate the safety and efficacy of C3F8 gas in cases of acute hydrops due to keratoconus.
Method: 9 eyes of 12 patients with acute hydrops due to keratoconus underwent expansile C3F8 gas injection intracamerally. The patients were followed up for 4 weeks for decrease in corneal edema and central corneal thickness.
Results: out of 9 eyes, 7 eyes showed significant reduction in corneal edema and decrease in central corneal thickness at the end of 1st week and 4 weeks follow up. 2 eyes needed keratoplasty. BCVA was greater than 6/60 in above 7 eyes.
Conclusion: Early intevention with C3F8 gas is an effective and safe therapy for management of cornea edema due hydrops of keratoconus.
