Robert Paul

WA Laser Eye Centre, Perth, Australia

Purpose ; To study the safety and efficacy of the Acrysof Phakic IOL in the treatment of myopia.

Methods: 10 Eyes underwent insertion of the Acrysof Phakic IOL.The Uncorrected visual acuity(UCVA) ,best corrected acuity(BCVA), Mean spherical refractive error(MSRE) as well as loss of BCVA and adverse outcomes was measured.

Results The preoperative error range was -7.00 to -13.00 spherical equivalent.100% of eyes achieved 6/12 vision or better(UCVA).90% achieved better than 6/7.5 UCVA. 70% achieved 6/6 or better UCVA. There was an improvement in BCVA in 40%.
No lines of BCVA were lost .The MRSE post operatively was + 0.60. There were no adverse outcomes and 1(10%) patient needed LASIK enhancement to correct residual astigmatism.

Conclusion Implantation of the Acrysof Cachet lens is a safe and effective procedure but larger studies are required.
