Purpose: To evaluate results of a new phakic intra-ocular lens implant.
Method: Thirty eyes of 15 consecutive patients with myopia of spherical equivalent between -4.38D and -13.75D (mean -8.30D) were evaluated pre and post-operatively to assess visual and refractive improvement following implantation of the Acrysof Cachet Phakic IOL. All eyes had less than -2.25D cylinder (mean 0.83D). No additional procedures were performed beyond implantation of the lens.
Results: At 1 month, 100% of eyes saw 6/12 or better visual acuity unaided, 92% achieved 6/9 and 67% achieved 6/6 unaided. 96% of eyes were within 1.0D of intended and 83% were within 0.5D of intended post-operative refraction. No eyes lost 2 or more lines of BSCVA, 17% lost 1 line, 29% maintained BSCVA, 50% gained 1 line and 4% gained 2 lines of BSCVA. No significant complications occured.
Conclusions: Acrysof phakic intra-ocular lens implantation displays safety, accuracy and efficacy in the management of moderate to high myopia.
