Objective To quantitative analyze correlation between the characteristic of retina images of bilateral congenital macular coloboma and the clinical feature of heterotropia.

Methods Nine bilateral congenital macular coloboma children with heterotropia who had been examined by best corrective visual acuity, prism cover test. Macular coloboma area was measured by fundus color photography analyzer (Image J from NIH) , while macular retina thickness was measured by Optical coherence tomography(OCT).

Results All heterotropia is exotropia in bilateral congenital macular coloboma children. No esotropia was detected. The average deviation angle is 44.44±3.91PD. No difference between the dominant eye and deviated eye were found in best corrective visual acuity, macular coloboma area and macular retina thickness respectively. There was no correlation between deviation angle and best corrective visual acuity, macular coloboma area, macular retina thickness respectively.

Conclusions The characteristic of heterotropia in bilateral congenital macular coloboma is different to sensory deviation. There is no correlation between the characteristic of retina images of binocular congenital macular coloboma and heterotropia.
