Hydroprocedures are critical to safe phacoemulsification. Hydroseparation of the subcapsular region from the capsule by injection of fluid into the subcapsular plane is cortical cleaving hydrodissection. Hydroseparation of the superficial cortex from the epinucleus is conventional hydrodissection.Hydrodelineation is separation of the inner hard - core endonucleus from the overlying epinucleus.

The aim of hydroprocedures is to facilitate manipulation and rotation , decreasing the risk of zonular dialysis and lens drop.Hydrodelineation allows the hard core nucleus to be emulsified over a protective epinuclear cushion.
