Objective: Through investigating the data of corneal donors in Shen zhen Eye Bank,we discussed some strategies about corneal donation at the present stage in China.

Methods: Retrospective analysis of Shenzhen Eye Bank records from January 2000 to October 2010. Including their age, sex, origin, cause of death, etal.

Results: 768 corneas were evaluated by our Eye Bank during this 11-years period. Mean age of donors was 44.8 years. the highest proportion being in 41-50 years age category. Donors are more men than women. The most common cause of death was cancer, followed by cardiovascular disease and trauma. Mean "death to enucleation time" and "preservation time" was 3.8 and 16.2 hours respectively. The number of corneas received from other province increased substantially.

Conclusions: In a period of 11 years, there was a increasing trend of donated corneas provided by Shenzhen Eye Bank. The signing of The Aero-transport Contract for Donated Cornea and Organs and the increasing volunteers would benefit the cornea donation from other provinces. The application of various preservation-media extend the donor storage-time. But compared with the developed country, more efforts must be madeļ¼Œsuch as legislation of organ donation written in driver`s licence to improve corneal donation rate in china.
