Prophylaxis for Endophthalmitis and Cystoid Macular Edema In Intraocular Surgery

The most feared sight threatening complications in an uneventful cataract surgery are Endophthalmitis and CME. In this presentation we would discuss how can these two be prevented?

Endophthalmitis
• Identification of patients at high risk to develop endophthalmitis
• Theater and its environment: How to check it routinely for satisfactory sterilization level
• Role of patient drapping techniques
• Role of Surgical incisions
• Role of antiseptics and antibiotics

CME
• Identification of patients at high risk to develop CME postoperatively
• Role of NSAIDS in preventing symptomatic CME development
