Purpose: To report 3 cases of homonymous hemianopsia patients expanded visual field and improved visual function by using prisms.
Methods: To expand the visual field, prism segment (12-30D) is placed base-out toward defected field. After prism diopters and directions were decided, patients were prescribed prism glasses or used Fresnel prisms. The effect of the prisms on field expansion was evaluated using Goldmann perimetry after 1month. And patients were asked about subjective visual functions and satisfactions in daily life before and after using the prism.
Results & Conclusions: Five eyes of 3 male patients were evaluated. Visual fields were expanded to the defected area average 10° in all three patients after using prism. Especially, central area expanded nearly 20°. Patients were satisfied and well tolerated the prism using field expansion. Using prism for visual field expansion is an effective method for improving visual functions in homonymous hemianopsia patients.
