Purpose
To report and discuss about the management of anisometropia in a 39 year old Indonesian male due to unilateral aphakia using rigid gas permeable (RGP) contact lens
Methods
A 39 year-old Indonesian male with anisometropia due to unilateral aphakia following cataract and vitrectomy surgery, with also high myopia in the fellow eye. Visual acuity of right eye was 6/60 and with correction S +3.50 can achieve 6/15. The visual acuity of the left eye with S -9. 75 C -1.25 x 180° can achieve 6/6.
Results
In the fitting process, keratometry examination was done with result of the horizontal curvature (HC) was 43.12 D( ~ 7.83 mm ) ,vertical curvature (VC) was 44.75 D (~7.54 mm ). The ideal base curve was 7.65 mm, then with overrefraction, patient's visual acuity can achieve 6/12. The RGP was prescribed with BC 7.65/ S +3.00/ 9.2 using Menicon Z RGP
Conclusions
There are choices of utilities to manage anisometropia. RGP had been chosen for this patient since patient has big difference of both eye's refractive error and had undergone refractive and intraocular surgery before. The management using RGP gives good result and hopefully will improve patient's quality of life.
