Purpose: To review the outcomes of patients with Sebaceous Cell Carcinoma in Hong Kong and to identify the histological and immunochemical characteristics from the case series.
Methods: A retrospective case series of 5 patients with histological confirmation of Sebaceous Cell Carcinoma were reviewed from the period 2000-2010 from our center. Immunochemical studies with p53, MLH and MSH staining were performed. The patients were followed up for recurrence of Sebaceous cell carcinoma.
Results: Sebaceous Cell Carcinoma represented 12.1% of all malignant eyelid tumors between 2000 and 2010 in our series. 2 cases showed pagetoid spread of neoplastic cells with stromal invasion. 1 case showed Bowenoid spread of neoplastic cells. The size of the initial lesion did not show correlation to any recurrence of disease. 2 cases were positive for p53 protein immunochemical staining while no cases showed positive MLH nor MSH staining. Of the cases reviewed, 1 patient had recurrent disease while the others are disease free at 2 year follow up.
Conclusion: Sebaceous cell Carcinoma is the second most common malignant eyelid tumor after Basal Cell Carcinoma in Hong Kong. Pagetoid and Bowenoid Spread are common histological findings. Immunochemical studies with p53 protein staining and recurrent disease is in consistent with findings with other case series.
