Purpose: To report two cases of spontaneous closure of carotid-cavernous fistula
Methods: Two case reports and literature review.
Results: Both cases had symptomatic carotid-cavernous fistula ( C-C fistula ) with spontaneous regression. One 74Y/O male had glaucoma and pseudophakic bullous keratopathy in the right eye for 7 years, but progressive left eye proptosis was noted in recent 10 days. Exophthalmos, complete ophthalmoplegia and conjunctival congestion were also presented. MRI revealed indirect type of C-C fistula. The angiography demonstrated spontanous closure of the lesion while trans-arterial embolization(TAE) was tried. Another 30 Y/O female had proptosis without diplopia for 5 months. MRI revealed C-C fistula. Diagnostic angiography confirmed dural arteriovenous fistula. 2 months later, the right eyelid swelling improved. Spontaneous regression of the dural arteriovenous fistula was documented during TAE intervention.
Conclusions: We reported two cases of spontaneous closure of carotid-cavernous fistula.
