External Dacryocystorhinostomy with Silicon Tube Intubation

Purpose: to report the outcome of External DCR with silicon tube intubation at RSUP Dr. Sardjito Hospital and Yap Eye Hospital, Jogjakarta, Indonesia

Methods: a retrospective study, data regarding sex, age, complaint, diagnosis, surgical methode and final follow up were collected from medical record and then reviewed.

Results: From August 2008 – September 2010 there were 10 patients underwent External DCR. Of the 10 patients, 4 (40%) were male and 6 (60%) were female. The mean age was 32.8 years old (wich range from 6 – 56 years old). Most of them complaint having epifora and chronic inflamation. The cause of obstruction were Chronic dacryocystitis 9 (90%) and 1 (10%) was post traumatic leading to lacrimal canal avulsion. The follow up was 3 months – 24 months .

Conclusion: External DCR with silicon intubation give the good result in managing patients with chronic dacryocystitis.
