Purpose: To report the anatomical advantages and success rates of endonasal dacryocystorhinostomy with unciformectomy

Methods: A total of 168 adult patients who were diagnosed with nasolacrimal duct obstruction underwent endonasal DCR with unciformectomy between January 2007 and February 2010. We followed up them for more than 6 months and studied success rates , recurrence, and complicatons of 168 patients(186 eyes).

Results: The average success rates for endonasal DCR with unciformectomy was 97.2%(35/36, both eyes). The average success rates for endonasal DCR with unciformectomy was 98%(147/150, mono eyes). The average success rates for endonasal DCR with unciformectomy was 97.8%(182/186 eyes). There were 4 eyes with post operative nasolacrimal duct obstruction.

Conclusions: We can use the uncinate process as anatomical landmark of approach to lacrimal bone. The endonasal dacryocystorhinostomy with unciformectomy made the large space of nasal cavity and reduced synechiae of nasal cavity. Thus, the unciformian endonasal dacryocystorhinostomy improves operation success rates.
