Purpose: This study is to evaluate efficacy, accuracy and safety of aspheric LASIK with Allegretto Wave Eye-Q in correcting myopia.
Methods: This retrospective study comprised myopes who had LASIK done with Allegretto Wave Eye-Q system with aspheric algorithm from December 2008 to September 2009 in Refraction Department of HCM city Eye Hospital.
Results: The study comprised 4827 eyes with myopia or myopic astigmatism. The mean preoperative spherical equivalent (SE) was -5.59D ± 2.93 (-0.25 to -16.75D), the mean one month postoperative SE +0.17D ± 0.36 (-2.50 to +2.25D) (N=3969) with 89% within ±0.50D and 90% within ±1.00D, and the mean three month postoperative SE +0.09D ± 0.38 (-4.00 to +2.38D) (N=2620) with 98% within ±0.50D and ±1.00D. One month and 3 months postoperatively, UCVA was 1.25 or better in 50% and 48%, 1.0 or better in 84% and 82%, 0.5 or better in 99% and 98% respectively. One month and 3 months postoperatively, BCVA gained one line or more than baseline in 63% and 61%, was unchanged in 35% and 37%, and lost one line in 2% and 1% respectively. The less the myopia, the higher significantly the percentage of eyes having refraction within ±0.50D and ±1.00D, BCVA equal or better than 1.25, 1.0 and 0.5, and BCVA gained one line or better (p<0.05).
Conclusions: Aspheric LASIK with Allegretto Wave Eye-Q system in correcting myopia provided good efficacy, accuracy and safety. The less myopia, the more efficacious and accurate the correction is.
