Purpose: To investigate the clinical factors relevant to that are significantly associated with the visual outcome in eyes with macular edema associated with branch retinal vein occlusion (BRVO).
Design: Retrospective, interventional case series.
Methods: We investigated the medical records of 68 eyes of 68 patients in which the whose macular edema was followed for 2 years and was resolved within 18 months by after appropriate treatment management and followed for at least 2 years were investigated. The treatment modalities; observation without treatment only, pars plana vitrectomy, or and intravitreal injection of triamcinolone acetonide (IVTA). The factors relevant to significantly associated with the BCVA at 24 months and with the duration of macular edema were investigated determined using by multivariate regression analysis.
Results: Multivariate regression analysis showed that a improved better BCVA at 24 months was significantly correlated with the a better BCVA at the first visit (OR, 9.18; 95% CI, 1.21-69.59; P = 0.032) and the a shorter duration o f macular edema (OR, 1.19; 95% CI, 1.05-1.36; P = 0.006).
Conclusion: Our results show that a better BCVA at the first visit and a shorter duration of macular edema were significantly correlated with a better BCVA improvement after at 2 years follow-up in the eyes with macular edema associated with BRVO.
