Beri Sarita
Purpose: To analyze the occurrence and various risk factors of ROP in preterm babies in 1999 and 2010 in an on going screening programme in a neonatal tertiary setup in India.
Materials and Methods:
Retrospective analysis of ROP screening programme .Preterm babies of gestational age ≤34 weeks and birth weight ≤1800 grams are being screened and followed up according to the standard protocol.
Result:
50 and 150 preterm babies were screened in 1999 and 2010 (till date) respectively. Prevalence of ROP in 1999 and 2010 was 16% (8/50) and 10% (15/150) respectively. Babies who needed treatment were 12.2% (6/49) and 3.3% (5/150).
Conclusions:
Improved neonatal care and management over the decade has decreased the incidence and severity of ROP.
