Purpose: To report on the use of topical nepafenac in the treatment of different causes of cystoid macular edema (CME).
Methods: Medical records of patients with CME of various causes who had topical nepafenac treatment were retrospectively reviewed. The Snellen best-corrected visual acuity (BCVA), optical coherence tomography (OCT) findings before and after topical nepafenac were reported.
Results: The duration of follow up ranged from 5 months to 10 months. Causes of CME included radiation therapy for choroidal metastasis, chronic anterior uveitis and pseudophakia with anterior chamber intraocular lens. All cases suffered visual lost with pre-treatment OCT demonstrated macular thickening with cystic changes consistent with CME. Topical nepafenac therapy resulted in complete regression of the CME or return of foveal depression. All cases achieved visual gain without noticeable side effects. The mean BCVA improvement was 0.65 logMAR and the mean reduction in retinal thickness was 246 µm.
Conclusions: Topical nepafenac appeared to be a useful treatment option for different causes CME.
