Clinical study of repairing effect of deproteined extract from calf blood on corneal epithelium and dryness after laser assisted in situ keratomileusis

Objective: To observe the clinic therapeutic effects of DECB on symptomatic relief and repair of corneal epithelium after laser assisted in situ keratomileusis (LA SIK).
Methods: The post-LASIK patients were enrolled in a certain period. They were divided randomly into treatment group and control group,40 cases(80 eyes)in each group.1 g•L fluorometholone eye drops and 3 g•L ofloxacin eye drops were given fourtimes aday after the operation, adding DECB eye-jel to treatment group and ganciclovi eye-jel to control group once pernight for three months.Symptoms, objective signs and compliance were parallel compared and global assessed at the 1st week.2nd week,1st month and 2nd month and 3rd month after operation. The symptoms included asthenopia accomodation, foreign body feelings, dryness of eye, lachrymation, photophobia and stabbing pain, and signs like visual acuity, tear break-up time,Schirmer's Test I,corneal epithelial fluorescein staining, SRI index of corneal topograpic maps, neovaseularization (NV),haze. All of these data were processed with SPSS l1.5 and P<0.05 indicates statistical difference.
Results: There was no difference in both groups on sex,age and naked vision preoperatively (P >0.05).All the symptoms were re1ieved after therapy (P <0.05)in each group, except dryness of eye and asthenopia accomodation.Corneal epithelium FS increased in ear1ier postoperative period in each group, then notably decreased after treatment(P <0.05).BUTs of both groups improved after therapy ( P <0.05).Schirmer 's Test I value and SRI value of both groups has no notably difference (P >0.05). There was no occurence of NV or haze in each group.Tollerance and safety of therapy of both groups were good. After treated with DECB eye-jel,dryness of eye in treatment group was better relieved than in control group (P <0.05) from the 2nd weeks postoperatively. And others symptoms were similar between two groups. The total score of six symptoms of treatment group from the 2nd weeks postoperatively was significantly better relieved than in control group (P <0.05). Corneal epithelium FS of treatment group was better than in control group just at the 2nd month and the 3rd months postoperatively (P <0.05).Other signs were no differences (P >0.05 between two groups).
Conclusion: DECB eye-jel is safe and comfortable to the patients of post-LASIK. It may relieve postoperative superficial irritations, benefit to epithelium and promote tear stabalization. There is neither NV occurence nor aggravation, and no haze appeares in each group.
