Purpose: To evaluate the efficacy of leukosapphire drainage (LSD) implantation in pseudophakic eyes with refractory glaucoma.
Methods: Forty eyes of forty patients with pseudophakia and refractory glaucoma who had undergone leukosapphire drainage implantation were studied. Intraocular pressure (IOP), visual acuty/field, HRT optic disc parameters were evaluated preoperatively. Indications for LSD implantations were IOP≥28,3±4,2 mmHg, visual field – more than 50% relative scotomas, 15% of absolute scotomas and annular scotomas closer than 5º to the center, glaucomatous excavation of optic nerve head in 3,5-5 sectors with HRT.
Results: In 32 patients mean postoperative IOP was 14,4±2,3 mmHg. In 5 patients improvement of visual functions was observed, 32 patients were without negative dynamic and 3 patients had falling of visual functions. Follow-up period ranged from 3 to 18 months
Conclusions: Surgical treatment of glaucoma with LSD implantation permits in 80% patients with refractory glaucoma to reduce IOP and to prevent the progression of glaucomatous process.
