Senile Upper Eyelid Entropion: A Novel Classification and Approach

Upper eyelid entropion is common in aged Asian . Causes may be chronic blepharitis, stem cell deficiency and aponeurosis-orbicularis tonus imbalance.

Purpose: 12 cases with upper eyelid entropion are investigated

Methods: Entropion is classified as disturbed margin structure or presumed stem cell deficiency, imbalanced aponeurosis-orbicularis complex. Treatment includes stem cell graft and/or aponeurosis advancement.

Results: Patients are operated and evaluated at 3 month period for trichiasis. No residual entropion is found. Lagopthalmos and eye dryness is not aggravated with reduced eye irritation.

Conclusion: Upper eyelid entropion can be successfully dealt in a proper approach without damaging the eyelid tarsus anatomy.
