Fig. 3. Adult worms of Onchocerca volvulus can be freed from excised nodules by collagenase digestion, which removes all of the host tissue. This nodule contained two adult females, which are much longer and thicker than the one male seen emerging at the upper right. These three worms were obtained from the same nodule.
