Aim To make a proper evaluation of the morbidity and prognosis of Posner Schlossman syndrome (PSS).
Methods Forty-seven cases (48 eyes) of PSS were studied, the range of age was 16 to 64 years (average 37±6). Intraocular pressure, keratic precipitates, anterior chamber, pupil, optic nerve disc and visual field were observed. Each case was examined every 3 to 7 days during attack and every 2 to 6 months between attacks.
Results One patient (2.13%) had PSS in both eyes. Forty-five patients (45 eyes, 93.75%) were benign condition after medical treatment. Progressive cupping and visual field loss were found in 2 patients (3 eyes, 6.25%), all had normal IOP and no recurrence of PSS after trabeculectomies with antimetabolites.
Conclusions Although the prognosis of most PSS patients are usually benign, we must pay attention to the IOP and optic nerve disc for a considerable time. The high incidence of visual field damage is likely to occur in patients with longer course and both eyes involved.
