Purpose To introduce a new technique which is the utility of naturally detached retinal pigment epithelial (RPE) to repair sub fovea RPE defect after removal of CNV exudative age related macular degeneration(ARMD).
Methods Momolayer RPE transplantation can be obtained by tearing down the naturally detached RPE patch or hydrolic separation in loosen area.
Results Among 14 patients who underwent monolayer RPE transplantation, 10 patients gained increase of ETDRS Score. One patient showed decreased visual acuity. Central fixation was set up in 5 patients. The time duration of follow-up ranged from 180 months to 360 months.
Conclusions Monolayer RPE grafting could be a feasible procedure for treatment of hemorrhagic ARMD with pigment epithelium detachment. By this technique, simplified procedure and less complications could be achieved. Evaluation of long term outcome is needed.
