Purpose To compare non-contact tonometer with Schiotz Tonometry in eyes after vitrectomy surgery with intraocular tamponade of silicone oil.
Methods  Prospective clinical comparative study. Thirty-seven consecutive patients undergoing vitrectomy surgery with postoperative oil tamponade were recruited. Intraocular pressure was measured with both devices.
Results Mean non-contact intraocular pressure was 3.47±0.87 kPa and the mean Schiotz intraocular pressure was 3.98 ±0.91 kPa. The mean difference between the non-contact and Schiotz readings was 0.51 kPa for silicone oil.
Conclusion Non-contact tonometry gives readings that are highly correlated with Schiotz tonometry, but on average 0.51 kPa lower in eyes after vitrectomy surgery with silicone oil tamponades. Much should be done to access the reliability of non-contact tonometry in eyes after vitrectomy surgery with intraocular tamponade of silicone oil .
