It is known that epigenetics plays an important role in the regulation of         inflammatory response, histone acetylation is especially critical in the pathogenesis of infectious keratitis. Our research showed that histone deacetylases (HDAC) is highly expressed in infected corneal specimen (viral, bacterial and fungal infection); in contrast acetylated histone is significantly reduced. The loss of the balance between acetylated histone and HDAC is associated with the increased inflammation response such as inflammatory cytokines (TNF) overproduction and transcript factor NF-kB activation. Therefore, the research suggests that inhibition of HADC can be a potential of therapeutic approach in the treatment of infectious corneal disease.
