PURPOSE  To make comparison of total corneal thickness measurement with a High-Speed Anterior Segment Optical Coherence Tomography (Visante OCT) in normal and Keratoconic eyes, and perform a analysis of thickness variation in both groups.
METHODS  By means of the commercial version of Visante OCT (Carl Zeiss Meditec), we studied twenty-one normal and seventeen Keratoconic eyes. The parameters obtained from pachymetry map including Central Corneal Thickness (CCT), Peripheral Corneal Thickness (PCT: equally divided into octants) in the 2-5mm region, 5-7mm region and 7-10mm region. Minimal Corneal Thickness (MinCT) and Maximal Corneal Thickness (MaxCT) read from the central 5-mm diameter district. Annular averaging corneal thickness and tendency of corneal thickness variation
(annular and meridian) were plotted
. All parameters that read or calculated were enrolled in the comparative study between Keratoconus and normal patient groups.
RESULTS: CCT, PCT and MinCT were significantly lower in Keratoconic eyes (p<0.001). Both Keratoconic and normal eyes represented as decreasing tendency of “S→N→I→T” in the peripheral annular regions, and the thickness variation in meridian direction was significantly higher in Keratoconus group (p<0.001). All Keratoconus diagnostic parameters based on Visante OCT pachymetry map showed consistent result.
CONCLUSIONS  Visante OCT can provide valuable pachymetry map to diagnose Keratoconus. However, cautions should be applied when evaluate the corneal thickness in annular and meridian. It seems a promising technique in corneal configuration.
