Objective To observe the clinical effect of vitrectomy (pars plana vitretomy, PPV) combined with extra panretinal photocoagulation (E-PRP)for neovascular glaucoma (NVG)．
Methods Eight cases (8 eyes) of NVG were retrospectiveIy analyzed．Five cases (5 eyes) were caused by proliferative diabetic retinopathy, Two cases (2 eyes) caused by central retinal vein occlusion (CRVO) and one cases (1 eyes) by branch retinal vein occlusion (BRVO). All eyes accepted PPV combined with E-PRP and phakic combined with phacoemulsification.Seven eyes operated PPV with air tamponade and one eye with silicone oil tamponade. Visual acuity before operation ranged from light perception to 0.1. The period of follow-up was. In the follow-up period of 2-12 months , the visual acuity，intraocular
pressure(IOP)，the condition of the new vessels on the iris and the angle of anterior chamber and complications were observed.
Results IOP reduced significantly in all cases. The postoperative IOP has significant difference in comparison to preoperative IOP(P<0.05).The new vessels on the iris and the angle of anterior chamber regressed completely.And Headache and eye expansion were relieved significantly in all cases. Early the higher intraocular pressure can be controlled wih medication. The IOP were normal since 2 weeks after treatment without any hypotensive drugs. VisuaI acuity in all patients was improved in varying degree except for 2 eyes and the postoperative best corrected visuaI acuity was 0.6 in1 eye. The common postoperative complication was transient hyphema in early stage, which disappearred quickly after drug therapy.
Conclusion PPV combined with E-PRP is a safe and effective method for neovascular glaucoma.
