Introduction Intraocular schwannomas are uncommon. We report a case of ciliary body tumor mimicking choroidal melanoma which was confirmed by pathology as a schwannoma. Case presentation A 48-year-old woman was admitted with gradual visual decline and temporal field defect of her right eye for 0.5 year. After the pupil was dilated, a dome-shaped neoplasm was detected at the site of ciliary body on the nasal side. The CT scan revealed a circumscribed mass with a slightly high density within the medial wall of the eye. The lesion was well-defined and isointensity to brain gray matter on T1-weighted sequence, showing homogeneous enhancement on contrast enhanced T1WI. It manifested isointensity with irregular dotted hyper-intensity in the center on T2WI. A diagnosis of choroidal melanoma was made and the eyeball was enucleated, according to the clinical and imaging appearance. The tumor was proved to be a schwannoma by light microscope and immunohistochemistry. Conclusion We report a case of uveal schwannoma. This rare tumor located at an uncommon site and showed unique imaging features. |
