[Purpose]
To assess the current status of research on laser in situ keratomieusis (LASIK) and its development trend by a bibliometrics analysis of literature on LASIK published in China Mainland during the past decade.
[Methods]
To search literature with the index “laser in situ keratomieusis’’ in Chinese Journals Full-text Database (CJFD). A statistical analysis were made for the literatures with SPSS12.11, evaluating the literatures with some bibliometrics indices, such as literature types, publication years, research types, The degree of collaboration, major subject, the authors’ institute, area distribution and the instrument used in the study.
[Results]
A collection of 847 original literatures were found, with publication years from 1996 to 2005. There were 737 articles, 63 case reports and 47 reviews. Among the articles, 712 were for clinical study and 24 were for animal study. The subject distribution was: 210 on complications, 175 for post-operation examination, 127 for some special cases, and so on. The journal distribution: 546 published in ophthalmology journals, 160 published in comprehensive medical journals, and 108 published in journal of medical colleges. There was a gradually increase for the publication years: 3 for 1996, 14 for 1997, 73 for 2000 and 164 for 2005. The degree of collaboration between authors, research centres was 3.76 and 1.58, respectively. 225 literatures were wrote by 4 authors, 190 literatures were wrote by 3 authors and 135 were wrote by 5 authors. The first authors of 460 papers were from medical colleges and affiliated hospitals, 134 from civil hospitals and 123 from army hospitals. Area distribution: Shandong 91, Beijing 82, Jiangsu 75 and Guangdong 70. The mean number of references were 6.2, 391 with 1 to 5 references, 278 with 6 to 10 references.
[Conclusions]
The study on LASIK in China Mainland is in a stage of gradual development, with more research in clinical study than relevant laboratory experiments.
