| Photoablation Centration on Cornea Optical Axis in Refractive Surgery with AOV Excimer Laser

ABSTRACT
Objective: To evaluate the clinical efficacy of LASIK with ablation centration on cornea optical axis with AOV Excimer Laser.
Methods: 119 eyes (60 patitents) underwent primary myopic LASIK were divided into 2 groups. The experimental group: 60 eyes (30 patients) with ablation centration on the cornea optical axis. The controlled group: 59 eyes (30 patients) with centration on pupil center. Patients’ characteristics were evenly matched. The uncorrected visual acuity (UCVA), best spectacle corrected visual acuity (BSCVA), decentration, refraction and high ocular aberration (HOA ) between the groups were compared.
Results: Mean decentration was 0.35±0.15mm in the experimental group versus 0.69±0.23mm in the control, there was a significant difference between groups (P<0.05). Postoperative UCVA was better in experimental group (P<0.05) although no difference was noted in postoperative BSCVA (P>0.05). 90% eyes in experimental were with residual astigmatism within 0.5D versus 72.88% eyes in the control, the difference was significant (P<0.01). The increase of root mean square of HOA was smaller in the experimental group (P<0.01 ).
Conclusion: The centration technique on cornea optical axis provided better centration, astigmatism correction and visual quality.
