AIM to evaluate the efficacy and safety of grid laser photocoagulation(GLP),triamcinolone acetonide(IVTA) and bevacizumab(IVB) for treatment of macular edema secondary to branch retinal vein occlusion(BRVO). METHODS It was a systematic review and meta-analysis,randomized controlled trials(RCT) and clinical controlled trials (CCT) were collected through electronic searches of the Cochrane Library, PubMed, EMbase, Wanfang Database online, Chinese journal Full-text Database, Chinese Scientific Journals Full-text Database (from the date of building the database to October 2010) We also checked the bibliographies of retrieved articles. All the related data that matched our standards were abstracted. The quality of included trials was evaluated according to the Dutch Cochrane Centre. RevMan 5.0 software was used for Meta-analysis. RESULTS A total of 4 RCT and 9 CCT involving 1384 eyes were included. The results of meta-analysis showed that the three treatments can improve visual acuity,IVTA and IVB are superior than GLP within a year and there was no significant difference between IVTA and IVB.one RCT reported mean change from baseline in visual acuity letter score is greater in the Grid laser photocoagulation compared with the 2 triamcinolone groups after month 12.the three treatments can decrease the central macular thickness,IVTA and IVB are superior than GLP within a year and there was no significant difference between IVTA and IVB.IVB is easier to relapse than IVTA,but IVTA has more obvious complications than IVB and GLP such as elevated IOP,cateract progression, inflammation, uveitis, postoperative endophthalmitis, retinal detachment, or ocular toxicity. CONCLUSION Current evidence showed that the three treatments can improve visual acuity and decrease the central macular thickness,IVTA and IVB are superior than GLP within a year and there was no significant difference between IVTA and IVB,IVB is easier to relapse than IVTA,but IVTA has more complications than IVB and GLP. |
