Purpose To evaluate intraocular pressure (IOP), anterior chamber depth (ACD), crystal thickness (CT), vitreous length (VL), axis oculi Length (AOL) and central corneal thickness (CCT) of Chinese full-term newborns. Methods 534 eyes of 267 healthy full-term newborns (mean gestational age 39±2 weeks, mean birth weight 3308.43±393g (range from 2400 to 4750g)) were sequentially determined by Horizontal Spring-tonometer, A-mode ultrasound instrument and P-mode ultrasound instrument respectively. Each measurement was done by five times, and only three data was reserved after breaking off both ends (So there was totally 801 data brought into the calculation to get the final data). It included 164 male and 103 female infants. The mean age after birth at measurement was 3.36±2 days (range from 2 hours to 13 days).Infants with any general or ocular abnormalities were excluded, even optic disk changes (C/D >0.4) and with any foregone familialhereditary diseases. Results Mean IOP was 12.14±2.59mmHg (range, 4-23) in right eyes (OD) and 12.53±2.73mmHg(range, 5-26) in left eyes(OS) (P=0.09 after correction by right eyes). Mean ACD, CT, VL, AOL was respectively 2.22±0.31mm(range, 1.1-3.39) , 3.74±0.22mm(range,2.71-4.92), 11.05±0.45mm(range, 9.67-12.44) and 17.03±0.58mm(range, 15.51-18.77) in right eyes; and 2.24±0.36mm(range,1.01-3.63), 3.73±0.23mm(range, 2.41-4.56) , 10.99±0.45mm(range, 9.62-13.06) and 16.99±0.62mm(range, 10.48-18.71) in left eyes (respectively P=0.10, P=0.70, P=0.004, P=0.18 after correction by OD). Mean CCT was 579.00±44.70µm(OD) (range, 410-704) and 582.94±45.86µm(OS)(range, 452-699)(P=0.08). Conclusions There was no significant difference between binoculus in IOP, ACD,CT, AOL and CCT, except VL. But, because of the similarACD,CTand AOL in two eyes, this difference was found with no consequence. |
