Purpose To evaluate the value of color Doppler ultrasound in orbital hemangioma. Method A retrospective analysis was made of 54 patients with orbital hemangioma who were examined by color Doppler ultrasonography, including cavernous hemangioma 29 cases, venous angioma 19 cases, and capillary hemangioma 6 cases. Results Conventional ultrasound of cavernous hemangioma revealed a solid mass of medium internal reflectivity with a regular internal structure, and no blood flow was obtained by color Doppler ultrasonography. Venous angioma was showed irregular, vary internal reflectivity, with venous flow. During ultrasound examination, capillary haemangiomas was reflecting a varied histological structure, and colour Doppler imaging showed high velocity flow in multiple vascular channels. Conclusion Color Doppler ultrasound can show not only the shape of a lesion and description of its borders, but also blood flow within the structure, which were valuable to differential diagnosis of orbital hemangioma. |
