Pterygium is a type of benign uncontrolled growth of the conjunctive tissue. Researches had been conducted to uncover the molecular factor relating to the pathogenesis of pterygium. Genes responbile for the DNA repair, and cell proliferation, migration and angiogenesis were important for the formation of pterygium. HPV infection might also be a risk factor in some populations. Though many genes had been found related to the development of pterygium, however, the pathogenesis is still not elucidated. |
