Purpose We report the evidence of corneal endothelial damage after collagen crosslinking by means of riboflavin and ultraviolet light for keratoconus Methods The Authors present a compared confocal microscopy before and after crosslinking procedure in this case report. Results A patient with progressive keratoconus underwent standard corneal collagen crosslinking. At 1 month after procedure, the patient`s visual acuity recovered to lever of before surgery. confocal microscopy showed markedly corneal endothelial cell loss and cellular bodies enlarged in both eyes compare with that before procedure. The examination display that mild haze was observed in shallow stroma of cornea without any endothelium decompensated sign. At 3 month follow-up, topography revealed the progression of keratectasia was halt .profile of corneal endothelium under confocal microscopy were same as the last examination. Conclusion Under some unclear conditions, there is potential risk of corneal endothelial damage after collagen crosslinking procedure. The ultraviolet dose and corneal pachymetry before the procedure should be emphasized, especial to patient with thin cornea. |
