Purpose This study was designed to establish variations in the biometry of myopia according to refractive state, and to determine the extent to which these characteristics contribute to the degree of myopia and also demonstrate the difference in the AL,K1,K1,ACD,White to White of myopia between the eye of male and the eye of female. Methods Subjects recruited for the study were 1187 university students of mean age 21.06 ± 2.41 years, The Axial length(AL), Corneal refractive power(k1,k2), Anterior chamber depth(ACD) and Corneal diameter (CD) of the eye was measured by IOL-Master(Carl Zeiss). The population was then characterized according to these biometry variables to establish relationships among them. Results The AL of the eye was found to be more related to the refractive error than the corneal refractive power(r>0.5,p<0.01;r<0.1,p>0.05) ,especially in subjects with moderate myopia and high myopia .The ACD and White to White of the eye were found to be little related to the refractive error. The AL of the male eye is greater than female eye. The White to White of the male eye also greater than the female eye. Conclusions AL of the eye is the main morphological variable related to myopia. The function of the cornea seems to compensate the possible myopic effects of slight increases in AL. AL seems to be a greater factor to the development of corneal refractive power. Both AL and White to White in the eye of male myopia are greater than females eye. |
