The small round avascular follicles and diffuse conjunctival inflammation indicate on-going disease activity (F2, P2 or TF; see Tables 1 and 4). The horizontal scar near the lid margin (C2 or trachomatous scarring) (see Table 1) is characteristic of trachoma in north Africa and can produce entropion of the upper lid early in life.
