Objective: To evaluate the warefront aberrations changes in astigmatic eyes by being fitted with hydrogel soft contact lenses. Methods: 41 eyes of 22 patients with astigmatism were fitted with hydrogel soft contact lenses. Higher order aberrations (HOA) were quantified with COAS wavefront sensor(Complete Ophthalmic Analysis System,COAS, WaveFront Sciences, Inc). 3rd to 6th order RMS values, coma and spherical aberrations at 3 and 5mmpupil were compared before and after soft contact lenses were inserted. Paired sample t–test was used to analyze the data in SPSS 13.0 software. Results: RMS of 3rd to 6th and total higher order aberrations were significantly increased after inserting contact lens at 3 and5mm pupil. Horizontal coma and spherical aberrations were slightly decreased after wearing soft contact lens at 3mm pupil. Vertical coma at 3 and 5mm pupil, horizontal coma and spherical aberration at5mmpupil were significantly increased. Conclusions: hydrogel soft contact lenses corrected astigmatic refractive error, while induced significant increase in higher order RMS and vertical coma both at 3 and5mmpupil. Horizontal coma and spherical aberration were similar at small pupil, while the increases were statistically significant at 5mmpupil. |
